Organizations & Subscriptions

Hey Girls, I have a couple of questions for you all.
1) What library organizations do you belong to and why? I only belong to KASL and worry that I should belong to more.
2) What library magazines do you subscribe to and why? I only take School Library Journal, and I just started VOYA although I haven't received it yet. I hope it is good.

Any comments you can give me will be appreciated! Hope you are enjoying a good start to the new semester. Courtney

Okay, I think I belong to ALA, AASL, KLA, and KASL because it didn't cost much more to renew as a student. I'm pretty sure I renewed before capstone was over this past summer. Since I still need the licensure class, maybe I can still renew at the student rate?
I get School Library Journal, VOYA, LMC and whatever the national organization sends out. I like VOYA because its mainly student readers giving input. LMC has clever articles on how to do your job. It's enjoyable.

OOPS, forgot one that I want to subscribe to: Bookmarks. I had picked up a copy last summer at Barnes and Noble and loved it. Of course, haven't found it again...I'll probably subscribe through Amazon.com.

I'm in ALA, AASL, KLA, and KASL. I just subscribe to SLJ now, but through my membership in ALA, they send out mags too. I don't always make time to read them however, since they are really geared towards the public librarian. I used to get School Library Activities Monthly, but my subscription lapsed.

But WHY are you all members of so many groups? What do they do for you? What am I missing out on? Also...is it personal money or school funds?

We had inservice today. I got to meet with the other librarians in the district. I got to take a look at Booklist. It looks pretty good, but not sure.
Why do I belong? I guess I want to be up-to-date on our profession. Selfish reason, more professional..maybe want to support my profession. I guess I need to give it some more thought.

Good point, though sometimes it's hard to arrive to definite conclusions
