Computer Equipment Question

Hello ladies! I have a question for all of you. At my school, we have 3 laptop carts, 5 TV carts, and 3 elmos which are stored and checked out from the library. How do you guys manage your equipment? How do you set up schedules for people to sign-up to take the equipment? Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Right now, I have a sign up sheet for each day of the week and am manually signing people up. They email me to check the date/time, and I email them back letting them know if it is available or not. This is such a simple thing, but it is consuming too much of my time! Thanks!

I don't inventory equipment in the library. Luckily, I was supported on this when I switched school to school...I just didn't have time.

The laptop cart is checked out through me, I do have that in our library inventory, and all the teacher does is email me when they check it out; there is just one to share. The grades share a laptop cart between 2 classrooms..that is done on their own.

Our tech lady is the one that controls the schedule of lap tops, IDL room, and tv/dvd player. She wanted it done this way, as it lets her keep an eye on things.

I have a monthly calendar book sitting open on the top of the cart. Teachers come in and check themselves what is open and what is not and sign themselves up. The hard part is changing mid-stream. They are used to emailing you, and that will be hard to break.

Unfortunately, many of them are not even emailing me. The problem is people are just taking the equipment without checking it out. Then, when the person who has it signed out comes to get it, it is gone.

We had a check out system at my old school. It was really a great system. She had a designated "parking spot" for each piece of equipment and a calendar posted on the wall by each. When you wanted it you marked the date and time. Then if you wanted the cart you could see if someone else already had a hold on it. It worked for the most part- we did have a few rebels who would ignore and take it anyway- it was pretty easy to figure out who had it real quick.

I'm lucky in the fact that we have a special storage space for the 5 laptop carts and the two av carts, and they don't have keys. We have a calendar online they can look at then email me, or we have a sign up sheet for all the carts and the computer lab they can come fill out. Most of them just stop by and do this. We pull the cart out to the front of the library in the morning, it's their job to pick it up and return it. Then we park it. We've had more issues with them not having students sign up and not checking laptops when they are checked in, but we are working on that.
